Every day we receive a number of advertising SMS-messages, even though we have never subscribed to them.
Mediamax asked mobile operators to clarify the actions they carry out to “combat” the unwanted SMS-messages.
“Our subscribers have a right to receive SMS-messages from their preferred suppliers, for example, about store discounts, new collections or a number of VAS-services and other things. Nevertheless, it’s our duty to protect them from unwanted and boring large-scale SMS-messages”, Orange Armenia Coordinator of Corporate Issues and Public Relations Gayane Igityan told Mediamax.
She noted that when subscribers give their numbers to one or several suppliers (commercial centers, service centers) they should also realize that their numbers might be included in special lists in the future used by companies sending large-scale SMS-messages against which Orange constantly struggles.
According to her, Orange “fully guarantees the safety of personal subscriber data, which is always unavailable for non-relevant bodies and individuals”.
Out of safety measures, Orange has worked out and implemented a complex set of procedures to secure the personal subscriber data and is consistent to the observance of the safety rules.
Answering to Mediamax’s question as to what measures are taken to combat SMS-spams, the company’s representative said that Orange has taken a number of measures to protect its subscribers against them, in particular, the company continuously blocks unidentified SMS-centers.
Gayane Igityan added that Orange has minimized the SMS-messages sent by the company.
“If our subscribers want, they might not get such informative SMS-messages at all”, Gayane Igityan said.
