18 settlements not having mobile network to be provided with GSM coverage

"ArmenTel", "K-Telecom" (VivaCell-MTS) and "Orange Armenia" will have to provide mobile network and broadband internet to 18 rural settlements and sectors of interstate highways deprived of mobile networks due to lack of GSM coverage till January 13, 2014.

The draft law on development and modernization of public mobile networks by "ArmenTel" CJSC, "K-Telecom" and "Orange Armenia" adopted at today's session of the Public Services Regulatory Commission reads this, Mediamax reports.

Each company has to provide coverage of public mobile network in 6 settlements.

"ArmenTel' - Antaramej, Kalavan, Barepat, Nerkin Shorzha, Verin Shorzha (all are located in the marz of Gegharkunik", Mozrov (Vayots Dzor).

"K-Telecom": Alavar, Adarli (both are located in the marz of Lori), Tanakhat (Syunik), Gnishik, Khors (both are in Vayots Dzor) and Goghatap (Tavush).

"Orange Armenia": Kachachkut, Antaramut (both are located in the marz of Lori), Bnunis, Geghanush, Gomaran and Ditsmayri (Syunik).


Under the decision, the operators should also take measurement to find out the sectors of the interstate highway which lack mobile network coverage till April 1, 2013 , and submit to the Commission's discussion.

"K-Telecom" General Manager Ralph Yirikian noted that the company won't confine itself to only the mentioned territories. "We will also in the mentioned 18 villages: we are already represented in the two of them - Alavar and Khors".

"Orange Armenia" CEO Francis Gelibter stressed the importance of providing the mobile coverage and reaching a consensus on the issue.
