Yerevan/Mediamax/. Orange Foundation and the Armenian Eyecare Project (AECP) have launched their joint initiative in Armavir region with the objective to realize free eye screenings and treatments for the socially disadvantaged people of the region.
Francis Gelibter, the Chairman of the Board of Orange Foundation, today visited Nalbandyan village in Armavir region and witnessed eye screenings of the local population as well as was present in the special eye care awareness class held in local school.
“For the inhabitants of regions quality eye treatment services are sometimes hardly available and sometimes even unreachable at all. Thanks to this initiative many people regain the ability to see, others are provided the chance to prevent new or aggravating eye diseases. As a telecommunication company we are happy to care about people who have communication problems, as eyes are the most important means of communication”, said Francis Gelibter, the Chairman of the Board of Orange Foundation.
“In the scope of this initiative about 4000 adults and 1200 children living in Armavir region will undergo eye screenings. It is planned to provide 1600 glasses. About 300 eye surgeries and treatments will be performed in the Mobile Eyecare Hospital. Besides, eye care awareness special classes will be held in 9 schools of Armavir region”, said Nune Yeghiazaryan, Country Director of the Armenian Eye Care Project.
This initiative has been launched since August in Baghramyan rural community. The Children of Armenia Fund (COAF) as well has joined this initiative. Its physician specialists, each in its territory, have realized eye screenings of the population and those in need of treatment have been sent to the Mobile Eyecare Hospital hosted in Myasnikyan village in these days and still to stay there till the 5th of October.
The medical staff of the Armenian Eyecare Project will work in Armavir region from 24 September till 20 October. It will continue its works in Vagharshabat (Ejmiatsin) region from 22 October till 17 November. The Mobile Eyecare Hospital will be hosted by Armavir and Vagharshapat (Ejmiatsin) regions. Orange Foundation and the Armenian Eyecare Project have launched their joint initiative since 2011. Throughout this period they have been to 5 regions of Armenia and provided eye care services to more than 21,000 people, out of which 1,600 have undergone free surgeries or laser treatments and around 9,100 glasses have been provided.
Financial contribution of Orange Foundation for the works performed in Armavir region amounts to 7,299,730 AMD.
