In April Swedish TechBuddy and Armenian Accontech organized tech contest Code in the Dark for the first time in Yerevan.
Code in the Dark is an intensive sport version of hackathon, which is focused on front-end (HTML, CSS) programming.
CEO & Founder at Accontech Ruben Semerjyan, the organizer of the event, gave an interview to Itel.am on this occasion.
To what extent were your expectations from Code in the Dark tech contest justified? What impressions do you have?
I admit that the results were really inspiring. A considerable number of participants were young people and the fact that they could deliver these results at their age is very motivating.
150 people registered first, but the day of the event coincided with a massive rally in Yerevan. That is why we decided to organize the event a day earlier.
Actually, all participants received an exclusive gift: Amazon Web Service gave everyone USD 500 credit.
You have other channels of cooperation with TechBuddy apart from Code in the Dark. Can you tell us about them?
It was a long shot, but we brought the technical part of TechBuddy to Armenia. Now TechBuddy’s entire web developing team, which is a part of our company, works in Yerevan.
TechBuddy is very famous in Sweden and Spain. The platform offers solutions for daily life through experts who provide quality service, and the clients can be certain of that because a mediator company bears the responsibility for the services. TechBuddy will expand to eight more European countries in the near future. By the way, one of the platform’s founders is Armenian.
The Armenian team includes 9 members, they all work under a tight schedule. We can manage now, but we’ll have to hire more people soon. You can have a look at our vacancies here.
We have proven it’s possible to implement a tech project in Armenia at professional level and that local working culture matches the European.
Now we’re ready to offer internship not only to university graduates, but students as well.
Another goal is to bring the certifying companies to Armenia in order to prepare experts compliant with global standards locally.
