The north-eastern shield of Armenia, the village of Vahan (the Armenian word “vahan” means “shield”) Gegharkuniq region, shares a 28-km-long border with Azerbaijan. The village, located 128 km away from Yerevan, has a heroic history. Living in a borderland area, the locals are forced to be on the alert and live exposed to the foe’s attention as true border guards.
VivaCell-MTS’ strategic program for the borderland villages was first implemented in this village in 2008, when there was an urge to construct a gas pipeline in the settlement. Armenia’s leading telecommunications operator keeps to the principle of combining the business interest and the responsibility.
This time the project beneficiary was the school-aged population of the village. The secondary school has 171 pupils, who now have an opportunity to use 3G Wi-Fi router working with the “MTS Connect Limited” tariff plan free of charge for a year. The tariff plan is specially designed to limit children’ access to web resources not intended for the junior and relieves parents and teachers from the obligation to constantly oversee schoolchildren using Internet.
The system of values based on the care for the society adopted at VivaCell-MTS has grown into a lifestyle for the Company’s employees. The AMD 2 million personal donations of the Accounting and Finance Department employees were used to build a toilet in the village school building.
