Around 4,000 people in Lori region benefited from free eye care services supported by Orange

Around 4,000 adults have already benefited from free eye screening services and 1900 glasses have been provided – while screenings are still ongoing– in the scope of the free eye screening and treatment program jointly implemented by the Armenian Eye Care Project (AECP) and Orange Foundation in Lori region in July and August.

Until the end of the works carried out in the scope of this program the number of people, who will have benefited from laser treatment and surgery services, will reach around 400, Orange has informed.

In the scope of the large-scale program “Sight to Armenian Eyes”, implemented in the regions of Armenia, the eye care specialists first of all examine all those, who wish to be examined, and then if any problems are found requiring surgical intervention, the patients who are socially vulnerable are directed to the Mobile Eye Hospital for further treatment for free, or, if necessary, are provided with glasses.

“The works in Lori region have started since the beginning of July, and the medical staff involved in the works have managed to provide free eye care services to much more people than was expected. The works will continue during the upcoming weeks, especially in Spitak. Of course, we are very happy to be able to help more people than expected. In the meanwhile, it comes to prove that these services are really very important for the population of the regions. My special thanks to the eye care specialists, who have arrived from Yerevan, as well as to local specialists for their patience and caring attitude towards people”, Francis Gelibter, the Chairman of the Board of the Orange Foundation, said.

“Next region to be visited after Lori will be Shirak. Together with the adults the children of 9 local schools as well will be examined by our medical staff. These children will also participate in special classes on eye care. Our medical staff will visit Ani, Artik and Akhuryan. The Mobile Eye Hospital will stop in Maralik, Artik and Akhuryan,” said Nune Yeghiazaryan, Country Director of the Armenian Eye Care Project.
