Orange to provide fixed telephony services via GSM technology by late 2012

Yerevan/Mediamax/. During today’s session, the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) of Armenia allowed Orange Armenia company to use “6065” non-geographic code of fixed telephony network and its numerical volume “XXXX” (10 000 numbers).

PSRC Telecommunication Department head Gevork Gevorgyan said that the company will provide fixed telephony services across its GSM coverage and is currently acquiring the relevant equipment.

Orange Armenia Adviser and Interconnection Coordinator Vahe Hovhannisyan said that the company will provide fixed telephony services via GSM  technology “when the SIM-card is inserted on the fixed telephone”, as a result of which there is no need to build a wired network.  “Such fixed telephony services have not been provided in Armenia yet, but they are quite common in Europe,” Vahe Hovhannisyan said, adding that they plan to start providing the service by late 2012.

Fixed telephony services in Armenia are provided by ArmenTel Company (Beeline trademark).
