State expects offers from the private sector in telecommunication sphere

Yerevan/Mediamax/. “ICT Leaders’ Meeting” forum was held in Aghveran on February 25-26. It focused on goals and strategies of the Armenian telecommunication sphere. Coordinator of Orange Armenia programs Vahe Hovhannisyan stated that it’s not known yet what the private sector will propose to the state in the telecommunication sphere and it’s important to know the priorities of the state in the sphere.

“Knowing this issue well will help us invest into the sphere in a more appropriate way. If there are programs suggested by the state we would like to know about it”, said Vahe Hovhannisyan.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication of Armenia Andranik Aleksanyan said in reply that it would be more correct to listen to the offers of the private sector and build business-state cooperation on their basis.

“For instance, we can allocate places for infrastructures to private enterprises on North-South highway in case they make proposals”, the Deputy Minister clarified.

He stressed the problem of lack of competition in the telecommunication sphere in the regions noting that the offers of the private sector can to some degree improve the situation.
