Orange announced a competition for modern Armenian writers

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Orange Armenia and “Armenian Book Center” Public Organization announced the launch of “Orange Book Award 2011” competition of modern Armenian writers’ works.

Chairman of “Armenian Book Center” Mkrtich Matevosyan said at a news conference in Yerevan today that all residents of Armenia, who write in Armenian, can participate by presenting a work, which has not been previously published in a hard copy format, to the competition. Works in the following genres can be presented to the competition: story/essay, novel, fairytale and dramatic work/play.

In order to participate in the competition, one should send the work (either in work or pdf formats) and its brief summary to orangebookprize@orangearmenia.am.

“Jury of the contest does not consist of professional writers, but of people, who like to read and are familiar with modern arts and literature. In this view, this competition is unique, since is goes beyond the tight frameworks of specialists and critics”, Mkrtich Matevosyan said.

By October 7, the Jury will have selected 4 works in each of the genres and the winners will be chosen via an online voting.

Orange CEO Bruno Duthoit informed that winners of the competition will be announced on November 11 and the works, which are announced winners in each of the genres, will be published with 500 copes.

“This is not a professional award, and it does not intend to become one. “Orange Book Award 2011” is the award of readers and book lovers. The readers themselves will choose the winners via an internet voting. This will allow on the one hand revealing and encouraging modern Armenian talented writers and on the other hand attracting a wide circle of readers via public readings, discussions and meetings with authors”, Bruno Duthoit said, adding that by this initiative, Orange is getting ready to celebrate the fact that Yerevan has been announced World Book Capital of 2012 by UNESCO.
