Yerevan/Mediamax/. World Bank (WB) will provide Armenia $24mln for “E-Society and Innovations to Stimulate Competitiveness” program.
Mediamax reports that Head of the program, Chief Expert on Information and Telecommunication Technologies of WB Juan Navas-Sabater said this at a news conference in Yerevan today.
He stressed that the main goal of the program is development of electronic society and its infrastructure in Armenia, as well as assistance to local IT companies in entering international market. According to Juan Navas-Sabater, this program will also allow increasing access of citizens to broadband internet. Introduction of an electronic passport and “Computer for All” project are also the program’s components.
Juan Navas-Sabater stressed that the program will be finally approved in October by WB Board of Directors, however, WB has already allocated $3mln for its implementation. He also stressed that Armenian government’s participation in this program at the volume of $6mln is also expected.
“E-Society and Innovations to Stimulate Competitiveness” program is meant to last 4 years.
