Yerevan/Mediamax/. An Initiative group made a suggestion on setting up a Pan-Armenian school basing on the Armenian Melkonyan Gymnasium in Cyprus.
As the member of the Initiative group, Chairman of “Ayb” Foundation Board of Trustees Father Mesrop Aramyan stated at a news conference in Yerevan today, the corresponding suggestion has been sent to the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), which owns the building and the land of Melkonyan Gymnasium.
According to Mesrop Aramyan, the Initiative group includes large Armenian entrepreneurs from the Diaspora, who are ready to invest means in reestablishment of the Gymnasium, as well as serious educational organizations, ready to participate in elaborating the corresponding education program.
At present, a Greek school is temporarily hosted in the building of Melkonyan Gymnasium; however EGBU intends to put the building to sale.
Father Mesrop Aramyan noted that the Pan-Armenian school should be set up basing on the following principles:
- school management should be realized by an organization, having experience in the sphere of education management;
- education should be carried out according to programs, basing on highest education standards, stimulation of development of new educational technologies;
- the teaching staff should be formed according to international standards of attestation and qualification;
- selection of students will be based on their talent, knowledge and motivation.
Representatives of the Initiative group expressed hope that, as a result of the negotiations, there will be an agreement reached by AGBU.
