“VivaCell-MTS” diversifies data transfer channels

Yerevan /Mediamax/. “VivaCell-MTS” signed a new agreement with GNC-Alfa wholesale internet provider, which will allow the mobile connection operator diversifying data transfer channels.

Mediamax was informed in the press service of “VivaCell-MTS” that, within the framework of the agreement, the company purchases a fiber-optical cable from GNC-Alfa in the section from Yerevan to the Armenian-Georgian border. This section of GNC-Alfa system will be put into operation in 2010.

On November 17, 2009, “VivaCell-MTS” and GNC-Alfa signed an agreement, due to which “VivaCell-MTS” gained the necessity to create a network on the entire territory of Armenia and get connected to international data transfer networks. In the South, the cable of GNC-Alfa is connected to Iran’s network and secures exist to world telecommunication networks.

Getting connected to international networks, “VivaCell-MTS” will be able to increase transmission capacity of its channels to meet the increasing demand of subscribers for broadband internet. According to forecasts, in the period from 2010 to 2013, the number of mobile broadband internet users in Armenia will increase abruptly.

Recently, “VivaCell-MTS” has increased the transmission capacity of its data transfer channels almost fivefold.
