Yerevan /Mediamax/. Information technologies justify their mission in development of Armenian economy, Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan stated in Yerevan today.
Mediamax reports that Nerses Yeritsyan said this at the third annual conference on Information Technologies Competitiveness in Armenia.
According to him, each year competition in the IT market increases and it is already difficult to imagine any efficient sector of economy today without the use of information technologies. Nerses Yeritsyan stated that today we can note that Armenia is an IT center among CIS counties and it constantly increases its share in GDP volume.
At the conference, Director of “Enterprise Incubator” Foundation Bagrat Yengibaryan presented the report on IT sphere for the year 2008. He informed that in the accounting period, 176 companies were functioning in IT sphere in Armenia, 56 of which represented foreign companies. At that, the share participation of the USA/Canada in IT companies made 64%, Russia – 18%, Europe – 16%.
According to him, 23% of IT companies deal with programming and outsourcing in Armenia, 13% - with web design and development, the activity of remaining companies is directed to service and consultations.
Bagrat Yengibaryan noted that the annual turnover of IT companies in Armenia in 2008 made $110mln. The volume of local companies’ production made $50mln, and export - $70mln. IT share in GDP volume made 1.2% in the accounting period, at that, the given index makes 1.4% in India, and 1.3% in Germany.
