Yerevan /Mediamax/. Orange supported the “Phonethon”, held each year in France on the eve of the All-Armenian “Hayastan” Fund’s Telethon.
As Mediamax was informed in the press service of Orange Armenia, Orange allocated a special telephone number for collecting donations. It also sent out special SMS messages to 50 thousand subscribers on behalf of the French singer of Armenian origin Hélène Ségara with an urge to participate in “Phonethon”.
All in all, 12 370 people participated in the campaign. They expressed readiness to donate a total amount of 1.182.988 EUR. The raised funds will be used for developing rural communities in Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
Commenting on the partnership between Orange and “Phonethon-2009”, Orange Armenia Board member Jean-Jacques Damlamian stated in particular:
“I am very happy with this success and very grateful to France Telecom Orange for its support providing not only the infrastructure and also some innovative technology. This year, the Phonethon was publicly supported by Hélène Ségara, a well known singer of Armenian ascent, and Orange provided a solution for sending a “voice SMS” to all the phone numbers recorded in their files as contributors or potential contributors. I must also add that the presence of France Telecom in Armenia via its investment in Orange Armenia is well known in the French Armenian community and it helped spur the interest in contributing."
