SmartGateVC invests in Facehub startup

SmartGateVC fund invested in Facehub startup, the app of which enables users to transfer facial expressions to different masks.

The app operates based on its machine learning algorithms.

iOS version of Facehub is already available.

According to co-founder of Facehub Garik Avetisyan, the unique lip-synching technology allows users to speak, laugh and make faces as their gestures are mirrored in real-time.

“Facehub provides more than just fun emojis, as its users can add any photo with a face and mirror the same expression onto a completely different face,” he remarked.

“We are proud to be on board with one of the strongest Artificial Intelligence teams in Armenia. While starting as a fun app, the technology behind it can be utilized in numerous applications, including in such hot topics as safeguards against fake videos,” partner at SmartGateVC Ashot Arzumanyan said.

“It’s always exciting to work with people being the first in the world to do something unique,” partner at SmartGateVC Hambardzum Kaghketsyan noted.

Founding Advisor at SmartGateVC Vazgen Hakobjanyan added that Facehub technology is a state-of-the-art application of AI and it’s also fun.

With target capital of USD 3 million, SmartGateVC invests up to USD 100,000 in pre-seed startups. The fund’s main areas of focus are artificial intelligence, security, and internet of things.

In late February, the fund announced investment from Tim Draper, who was among the first to invest in Skype, Baidu, Hotmail, and Tesla. In Yerevan SmartGateVC operates in Hero House co-working space.
