VivaCell-MTS helps to provide outdoor lighting in Lichq community

Owing to the joint efforts of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS, Lichq community of Gegharquniq Region has been provided with street lighting within the frames of the “Alternative Energy” Project.

LED street lighting system has been installed in the community. The launching event was attended by VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, FPWC Founder Ruben Khachatryan, Head of Lichq community Gnel Grigoryan and community residents.

Lichq community, with over 5000 inhabitants, had not had outdoor lighting since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The situation slightly improved 10 years ago when a street lighting system was installed in the primary part of the central street of the community.  Due to the “Alternative Energy” Project, supporting poles and 47 LED street lights were installed. Now an area of 1450 meters in the central part of the village is provided with lighting.

“This program has two components: environmental and social. Both of them are of equal importance to us. Owing to the opportunities of modern technologies we benefit to environmental protection from one side and relief the social burden of the villager, from the other side. The implemented program is aimed at providing energy-efficient street lighting in Lichq. The support to Lichq community is also important from the psychological perspective. The lack of household conveniences has a negative impact on the quality of life. We strive to not only improve the living conditions, but also pass our compatriots living in borderland communities the belief in a better future,” VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian said.

LED lights are energy-efficient, durable and last much longer than regular ones. The environmentally friendly and energy efficient LED street lights will reduce energy consumption by 80%. The timeframe for lighting in summer will be 22:00 PM till 01:00 AM. And the winter timeframe is 18:30 PM till 12:00 AM. On holidays the lighting will be provided all night long.

The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets and its general partner VivaCell-MTS attach great importance to the use of innovative technologies in the environmental protection initiatives which promote nature conservation, energy-efficiency, as well as community development.
