In frames of network expansion and modernization project, VivaCell-MTS has recently installed another 60 new base stations in Armenia (30 3G stations and 30 2G stations).
2 base station was installed in the administrative district Avan, 4 in the administrative district Shengavit, 4 in administrative district Nork Marash, 6 in administrative district Ajapnyak, 14 base stations in Sis, Araksavan, Nor Kharberd, Hovtashat, Zangakatun, Arevabuyr, Arbat villages, and 2 base station in Masis city of Ararat region, 14 base stations in Nor Artagers, Argavand, Ervandashat, Margara, Mrgashat, Alashkert and Karakert villages, and 2 in Echmiadzin city of Armavir region, 4 base stations in Shaqi and Lor villages of Syunik region, 2 base stations in Dilijan, Tavush region, 2 base stations in Horbategh, Vayots Dzor region, 2 base station in Balahovit, Kotayk region, and 2 base station in Nor Amanos village of Aragatsotn marz.
With the installation of new base station in Karakert village of Armavir, Nor Amanos village of Aragatsotn, Lor villageof Syunik, Horbategh village of Vayots Dzor, and Zangakatun village of Ararat regions 2G and 3G-based higher quality voice and internet services became available to the population of those villages. The rest of the base stations have been installed for increasing the capacity of the network.
When making decisions on installing new base stations, VivaCell-MTS is not guided by Return on Investment (ROI) consideration only. Continuous modernization of the network and capacity improvement is a priority for VivaCell-MTS as the availability of communication infrastructure is both a social and security issue. As a responsible operator, VivaCell-MTS is determined to provide with mobile voice and internet services even the most remote areas with small population and potential consumption of services.
Overall, from January 2013 till present (December 2013), in frames of network expansion and modernization project 186 new 3G base stations and 77 2G base stations were installed in all regions of Armenia (total of 263). In frames of the project, 2G stations were upgraded in terms of improvement of voice services, and existing 3G base stations were upgraded in terms of data expansion and capacity improvement.
VivaCell-MTS commits that the network modernization and expansion with the latest technology will continue with additional 90 2G and 3G base stations to be installed till the end of 2013.
