Armenian Eye Care Project and Orange summarized the results of joint project

In 3 years more than 50 000 people have benefitted from free eye care services: the Armenian Eye Care Project and the Orange Foundation are summarizing the results of the work done in 2011-2013
 
The 2013 program of the Armenian Eye Care Project and the Orange Foundation is ending in Aragatsotn region, which has the objective to provide free eye care services to vulnerable populations of Armenia. This cooperation started in 2011 and in 3 years, thanks to it, 40,688 adults and 9,997 children have been screened, 3,768 surgeries and laser treatments have been realized, 18,140 pairs of glasses were distributed, 3,659 children in 53 regional schools have participated in special classes on daily eye care. These are the results of 3-year activities of the AECP and the Orange Foundation in 9 regions of Armenia, out of which Shirak and Aragatsotn were visited twice.

Today the heads of the AECP and the Orange Foundation visited the mobile eye hospital, which is currently in Aparan. The objective of the visit was to get acquainted with the ongoing works in the Aragatsotn region and summarize the results of the project.

“Care about people in general and children especially is one of the main directions of the Orange Foundation philanthropic activities. This project, which has been helpful to tens of thousands of people, and thanks to which many people regained their sight, is targeting the inhabitants of the regions of Armenia exclusively. We are glad to see that this initiative is really bringing a change into the lives of these people,” said Francis Gelibter, Chairman of the Board of the Orange Foundation.

“If I summarize only the year of 2013, we have screened around 17,000 adults and 4,000 children in Kotayk, Tavush, Lori, Shirak and Aragatsotn regions, and 1,715 of those people children have participated in public classes about eye care. Around 1,700 surgeries and laser treatments were realized, around 6,500 pairs of glasses distributed. Overall, the results of our cooperation with Orange Foundation are really positive, especially because we have managed to visit almost all regions of Armenia. We are glad to inform that on the special proposal of the Ministry of Health of Armenia, we will include Gegharkunik region in our schedule of 2014: we have been only once in this region in the history of the AECP. We hope to have the Orange Foundation as our strategic partner also during our mission of next year, when we’ll also visit Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Ararat and Armavir,” said Nune Yeghiazaryan, Country Director of the Armenian Eye Care Project.
