“Kangaroo-2010” math competition to take place in Armenian schools on March 18

Yerevan/Mediamax/. International “Kangaroo-2010” math competition will take place on March 18 in Armenia.

Mediamax reports that David Sahakyan, Executive Director of “Ayb” Educational Foundation, which is the organizer of the international competition in Armenia, said this at a news conference in Yerevan today.

According to him, 39 400 pupils from 900 schools of the country have submitted applications to participate in the competition this year.

David Sahakyan stated that each year the international competition grows into an educational movement in Armenia.

“Last year, when “Kangaroo” was officially held in Armenia for the first time, the number of participants made 30 thousands from 570 schools, and that index exceeded the expectations of the organizers. This year we made sure that education is not at all in the last place for our children, and Armenian pupils participate in the most popular competition in the world with love and inspiration”, David Sahakyan stated.

Head of General Education Department of the Ministry of Science and Education of Armenia Narine Hovhannisyan stated that in the context of educational reforms, any program aiming at stimulating and assessing education among pupils is welcomed. According to her, “Kangaroo” international competition is important for the fact that it imparts love towards mathematics to schoolchildren.

David Sahakyan informed that this year competition problems will be presented both in Armenian and in Russian, and this became possible due to cooperation with “Rossotrudnichestvo” (“Russia Cooperation”) organization, which functions under the Embassy of Russia in Armenia. He also informed that the general sponsor of the competition – “VTB Bank Armenia”, is actively involved in the organizational process. The schools will receive packages from the regional branches of the bank.
