Yerevan /Mediamax/. Despite the fact that technical capacities of the infrastructure existing in Armenia thousand times exceed its needs, nevertheless, internet providers need a greater number of exits to international mains, Technical Director of “Arminco” Grigor Saghyan stated.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at the forum of IT leaders of Armenia, which took place on July 4-5 in Dilijan, Grigor Saghyan stated that “ArmenTel” Company, possessing international fiber-optic exists and being at that an internet connection provider, creates an unbalanced situation in the market.

““ArmenTel” Company pays $370 at the border with Armenia for 1Gbit/second internet, which is the weighted average price in the region, and sells the same volume to other operators for $1300”, Grigor Saghyan, adding that the entry of “Fibernet” Company, which also has an international exit, to the market, almost ten times reduced the price for 1Gbit/second internet.

Grigor Saghyan noted that the fiber-optic cable, which is being laid along the gas main of Armenia by “GNC Alfa” Company, will also have a positive effect on competition.

According to him, before August, 2009, “GNC Alfa” plans to put Yerevan-Meghri section of the network to service and connect it to the connection line in Iran. The further plans to the operator include laying a fiber-optic cable from Yerevan to the border with Georgia and provide services of high-speed transit through the territory of Armenia, as well as expansion of the network to the Armenian towns.
